What seemed to be yet another week without a winner turned out to be one of the biggest ever jackpot prizes in recent history. However, after 200 draws, the famous SuperEna Lotto has finally come up with a winner. One incredibly lucky Italian ticket holder managed to convert a €3 purchase into a massive €163 million jackpot win. This grand prize win has now become the largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket holder. The previous record was the almost equally impressive €147 million won by one lucky player in 2009.
Domenico Lo Bianco, owner of the Catanian newsagent, told the Italian press: "At first, when journalists phoned me to tell me about the win, I thought it was a joke. Slowly I realized that it was all true."
After Domenico came to realise that it was not a hoax, he scurried over to his store only to find that the media had beaten him to it. When asked if he had any idea regarding the identity of his winning customer, he admitted that because of the large influx of clients he serves each day, knowing this was impossible.
This is the only time this year that every number was successfully matched, and only the second time in the game's history. Although it has been previously matched in 2015, the €22 million won by a Catanian pales in comparison to this week's €163.5 million prize.
