A victorious cancer survivor has tilted life's odds in her favour once again and has won £61 million. Sonia Davies was diagnosed and treated for a tumour found on her Parathyroid gland. After a successful operation, she felt that she wanted to see how far her luck would taker her and urged her daughter to purchase the EuroMillions ticket. "I had my operation on Wednesday and until then, we didn't know how serious it was," she said.
"They told me that if it hadn't been removed it would have been fatal - at the very least I would have lost my voice within a year."
Sonia was in a celebratory mood after overcoming a successful keyhole surgery in the USA and asked her daughter, Stephanie Davies, to buy a ticket. "They managed to give me the all-clear straight after the operation, so as you would imagine, we were on cloud nine."
"I had my surgery on Wednesday and I suppose the Friday was the first day I felt 'I am cured', I felt good, it didn't hurt anymore."
"What a Rollercoaster of a Week We've Had"
Sonia and her partner, Keith had already been set for their holiday to Florida upon discovering a leading treatment centre in the USA. Jokingly, she described her tactic of persuading her daughter, Stephanie, into buying a ticket as being "bullying" her into doing it. Then came that phone call from her daughter:
"What a rollercoaster of a week we've had," said Sonia.
"They managed to give me the all-clear straight after the operation, so as you would imagine we were on cloud nine. "[Keith] was convinced that we were the luckiest people on the planet and definitely on a winning streak after the success of my op," she said.
"Something told us we needed to get a ticket - and the rest is history."
Sonia described the phone call from her daughter's "muffled" voice as she "sobbed down the phone."
"I thought she'd told me she'd lost her dog. Then I heard Steve shouting 'we've won £61m'.
Stephanie, who is a sales executive, say that she and Steve are making plans to revamp their bathroom en-suite in their newly purchased home while Sonia and Keith are keen on buying a new car port for their home. The Davies family's lucky EuroMillions ticket is one of six to have claimed the jackpot prize and is the fourth to be won in the UK this year. The lucky numbers for Friday's draw were 1-21-26-40-50 and the Lucky Stars were 2 and 4.
