Jacqui Shannon is the latest of fresh new millionaires, thanks to the National Lottery's Euromillions draw which took place last Friday night at 20:55 CET. In a frank BBC 5 radio interview, Jacqui revealed that she may have let her win go had it not been for an email telling her that her tickets had finished, prompting her to top up her online account.
That is when she saw the congratulatory message on her online account.
"Well I play online on a regular basis and I genuinely believed when I saw the email, I thought 'oh that'll be another £2.40,' because that's all I've ever won in the Euromillions, " she admitted. "A few weeks later I got another email to say, 'Your ticket has finished. Would you like to play again?'."
"The first line said, 'congratulations, you've won a lotto lucky dip.' The second like was, 'congratulations, you've won a million pounds!"
The flabbergasted new millionaire couldn't believe what she heard and kept questioning what she had just been told. "Is that six zeros?" she triple checked. "Is that real? Is that real?" she continued.
Shannon, a charity worker for the NSPCC, says that played online regularly but had never won more than £2,40 in the Euromillions. However, after the shock at winning subsided, she decided to go back to work as if everything was normal. Admittedly, she does go about her days with an extra bounce in her step, something that she says her co-workers have noticed.
