Estranged son gets nothing from EuroMillions winner mum

The estranged son of Sonia Davies, a woman who won £61million on the Euromillions, says he doesn't know whether he will receive a portion of the jackpot prize, even though the rest of his siblings have. He claims that he hasn't been offered any money so far and says they “haven't spoken about any of that. She just told me not to tell anyone. We spoke on the phone but before that I hadn't seen her in person for, well, a while.”

Spencer Pugh, 24, told The Sun that Sonia, 53, phoned him on Sunday to tell him about her massive win which saw her and four other members of the family hit the £61million EuroMillions jackpot. The family syndicate was made up of Sonia, her partner Keith Reynolds, 55, daughters Stephanie, 23, and Courtney, 19, and Stephanie's boyfriend Steve Powell, 30. They managed to match all six numbers correctly with a Lucky Dip and are dividing the win to get £12.2 million each.

A food processing plant worker in Gloucester, Spencer lives a quiet life. Since his parents split when he was 8, he has lived with his dad and barely stays in contact with his mother. His father says they have nothing to do with the Davies side of the family. In complete contrast to this tranquil and humble lifestyle, the Davies family reside in a £1million mansion in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

How Sonia won

Sonia was feeling lucky after recovering from surgery and urged her daughter to buy her a ticket.

“I had the surgery a week ago. Friday was the first day I felt, wow, I'm cured, I feel good, it doesn't hurt so much,” she recalls.

“I felt like I had cheated death and felt so so lucky. You just feel like, we're on a roll, let's buy a lottery ticket because we're so lucky.”

“I didn't think we'd win but, when you feel everything is shining down on you, you just go for it,” she added.

Earlier this year, Sonia was diagnosed with a tumour on her parathyroid gland, and had undergone surgery in Florida. “What a rollercoaster of a week we've had. I had my operation on Wednesday and until then we didn't know how serious it was. They told me that if it hadn't been removed it would have been fatal - and at the very least I would have lost my voice within a year.”

“They managed to give me the all clear straight after the operation, so as you can imagine we were on cloud nine.”

“Excited we were about to return home to celebrate our brilliant news, Keith was scanning his emails and read about the EuroMillions rollover. He was convinced that we were the luckiest people on the planet and definitely on a winning streak after the success of my op.”

“So we called up my daughter Courtney to ask her to go and buy us a ticket. She was travelling and wasn't able to change her plans so we called Stephanie instead as something told us we needed to get a ticket - and the rest is history.”

You could win too

Even though Spencer doesn't share the luck of the rest of his family, it could one day be his time to shine.
